The Knife’s ‘Heartbeats’ is a certified electro classic, no argument. The 2003 anthem (criminally covered by Jose Gonzalez) is sheer electronic pop genius and one of The Knife’s most accessible and endearing moments. This live version, recorded in their native Sweden, perfectly embodies why we love Karin and Olaf Dreijer so much. Stripped of its popiness and reworked into a brooding minimal number, it’s almost transformed into a Silent Shout track and exhibit’s the Dreijer’s musical radiance and willingness to dissect their own tunes. Better still, it’s a stunning, spine-tingling piece of music - even if this version does sound a bit like Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’ at times.
